Access individual sessions from a professional Learning Specialist to maximize your academic skills and outcomes. We offer both in-person and virtual individual appointments.

Learning Appointments

Learning appointments with a Learning Specialist cover academic strategies in a supportive environment to help students on their academic journey. Academic strategies allow students to work from their strengths to improve their learning skills.

In these 50-minute appointments, you and the Learning Specialist can discuss one of the following topics:

  • time management
  • reading strategies for textbooks, articles, and other texts
  • note-taking
  • exam prep
  • study skills
  • task analysis
  • critical thinking
  • oral presentations

How to Prepare for a Learning Appointment

You may opt to bring some of the following materials with you:

  • course syllabi
  • notes
  • textbooks
  • assignments

Alternatively, you can just bring questions.

We encourage you to schedule appointments at least one or two weeks in advance, as Learning Specialists can be in high demand.

We do not limit how many appointments students can access each semester; however, we would like to ask you to please attend your booked appointments or cancel them up to 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time.

  • U of A Student: Free
  • Non–U of A Fee: $22.50 per session

Looking for Workshops?

Our group workshops are designed to teach you new skills that you can apply directly to your academic work. Presented by our Learning Specialists, each workshop focuses on specific academic tasks and concerns with university-level studying and reading, time management and planning, exam prep or test-taking strategies. Our Learning workshops are free to U of A students.
